Description

Cryptocoryne petchii is a small, adaptable Sri Lankan Cryptocoryne with lightly wavy leaves in an olive-green to mid-green tone, typically staying between 10–15cm in height. It's one of the more forgiving Crypt species, tolerating a wide range of water conditions and making it a good choice for beginners or for aquariums where water parameters aren't tightly controlled.

Low light, no CO2, planted in substrate. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate support good establishment and runner production. Like all Crypts, it can experience temporary leaf melt after being moved — leave the rhizome in place and it will regrow. Once settled it spreads reliably.

Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. Suitable for foreground to lower midground positioning.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What is 'crypt melt'?

When moved, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is normal. Leave the rhizome in place and new leaves will regrow.

How does petchii compare to beckettii?

Very similar in size and character — both are compact Sri Lankan Crypts that are forgiving and adaptable. Petchii tends to have a slightly more olive tone to the leaves.

Does it need CO2?

No — grows well without CO2. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate are more important.

How small does it stay?

Typically 10–15cm — suitable for foreground to lower midground in most aquariums.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — one of the more forgiving Crypt species for beginners. Tolerates a range of conditions.
