    Description

Hygrophila araguaia is a compact, fine-leaved stem plant from the Amazon producing small, narrow leaves that shift from olive-green to warm pinkish-brown in brighter light. This version comes pre-established on a piece of lava rock, creating a compact and unusual planted feature — a stem plant growing directly from volcanic rock, without substrate planting, that can be placed and moved freely anywhere in the aquarium.

Hygrophila araguaia is an easy plant. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. Growth is steady and the plant responds well to regular trimming, which encourages bushy and compact regrowth from the base. Its small leaf size gives it a delicate appearance despite being a robust grower.

The plant is pre-established on the lava rock so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. The lava rock sinks immediately and can be moved or repositioned as needed. Suited to aquariums of 20 litres and above and effective as a midground accent with a distinctive stem-on-rock appearance.

    Plant Sizes

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

How does Hygrophila araguaia grow on a rock?

Its stems can establish on the porous surface of lava rock. The plant grows upward from the rock, creating an unusual stem-plant-on-rock appearance.

    Does it need CO2?

Not required — it grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection, though supplementation improves growth density and pink-brown colouration.

Do I need to plant it in substrate?

No — it is pre-established on lava rock. Just rinse and place it wherever you want in the tank.

How do I keep it compact?

Trim regularly — Hygrophila responds well to trimming and produces bushier, denser regrowth after each cut.

What tank size does it suit?

It works from 20 litres upward. Its compact growth makes it well suited to midground positions in small and medium aquariums.
