Description

Anubias barteri nana is a compact, easy-going aquarium plant with oval, dark green leaves that are tough, slow-growing, and largely ignored by most fish. This version comes pre-attached to a piece of natural mangrove root — a branching, pale-coloured wood with a distinctive angular structure that creates a striking natural feature in the aquarium. The combination of Anubias nana and mangrove root is a classic choice for aquascaping.

Anubias nana needs very little to thrive. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and is tolerant of a wide range of water temperatures, hardness, and pH. Growth is slow but steady and once established the plant is virtually indestructible, requiring no trimming and very little ongoing attention.

The rhizome is pre-grown onto the mangrove root so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place it in the tank. Mangrove wood is lightweight and may need a brief soak to fully submerge initially. The Anubias continues growing along the root over time, gradually spreading to cover more of the wood naturally.

Plant Sizes

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Will the mangrove wood sink?

Mangrove is lightweight and may need a brief soak of a few days before it sinks fully. You can weigh it down temporarily with a rock while it saturates.

Does it need CO2?

No — Anubias nana grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection.

Is it ready to go straight into the tank?

Yes — the plant is already attached. Just rinse and place. No gluing, tying, or planting needed.

How large does the plant get?

Anubias nana stays compact — individual leaves are typically 2–4 cm and the plant spreads slowly along the mangrove over time.

Is it safe for shrimp?

Yes, fully. Anubias and mangrove root are both shrimp-safe and the structure provides excellent shelter for shrimp and small fish.
