Microsorum pteropus on Lava Rock - Medium

Microsorum pteropus — Java fern — is pre-attached to a medium-sized piece of natural lava rock, creating an immediately impactful planted feature with broad, wavy-edged dark green fronds. The medium size suits aquariums from 40 litres upward and provides significantly more visual presence than the mini version, making it effective as a centrepiece midground or background element in planted layouts.

Java fern is one of the easiest aquarium plants available. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions and temperatures. The rhizome attaches firmly to the porous lava rock surface over time and the plant is long-lived and largely self-maintaining once established. It is generally left alone by most fish.

The plant is pre-attached to the lava rock so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. Never bury the rhizome. The lava rock sinks immediately and can be moved or repositioned at any time without disturbing the substrate. Suited to aquariums of 40 litres and above.
