Description

The Anubias Bonsai Coconut Hut is a carved coconut shell shaped to resemble a small hut, with Anubias nana growing from the exterior to create a planted, natural-looking aquarium ornament. It serves a dual purpose as both a visual feature and a functional hideout for small fish and shrimp, making it equally suited to community aquariums and dedicated shrimp set-ups.

Anubias nana is one of the most low-maintenance aquarium plants in the hobby. It grows in low light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. Growth is slow and the plant is long-lived, gradually increasing its coverage over the coconut surface over time with no special care required.

The plant is pre-established on the coconut hut so no further planting or attachment is needed — just rinse and place. The hut opening provides natural shelter that fish and shrimp will readily use. Shrimp particularly enjoy the combination of grazing on the Anubias leaves and sheltering inside. Coconut is natural and biodegradable.

Plant Sizes

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

My kribensis love this hut, they made sure the tank mates never got a look in. Looks good and would buy more as gives much needed cover for more timid fish species

Lovely product, but it didn't have a cave opening, which is a shame but the plant is growing lovely.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Will fish and shrimp actually use the hut?

Yes — small fish and shrimp readily move into the coconut hut as a shelter and territory. It is particularly popular with shrimp, small catfish, and nano fish.

Does it need CO2 or special lighting?

No — Anubias nana is one of the most low-tech plants available and grows in standard aquarium light without CO2.

Is the coconut shell safe for aquarium use?

Yes — natural coconut is aquarium-safe, biodegradable, and beneficial. It may darken the water slightly with natural tannins initially.

Will the Anubias spread over the coconut?

Yes, slowly over time. The rhizome will continue growing and spreading across the coconut surface, increasing coverage naturally.

What tank size suits it?

It works from 20 litres upward and is particularly effective in shrimp tanks and small community aquariums where it provides both planting and shelter.
