    Description

The Marimo Tree Small is a decorative tree structure adorned with real Marimo moss balls — the spherical freshwater algae from Japan's Lake Akan, valued for their perfectly round form and deep velvety green surface. The tree armature holds several Marimo spheres to create the appearance of a miniature tree in full leaf, combining a decorative structure with genuinely living aquatic specimens at a size suited to smaller aquariums.

Marimo are among the easiest and most long-lived aquarium specimens available. They grow extremely slowly in low light without any CO2 injection and require very little attention — a gentle squeeze and reshape once a month is all that is needed to maintain their round form. With proper care they can live for decades.

This is a ready-to-use product — simply rinse and place in the tank. The small size is suited to aquariums of 30 litres and above where it works as a neat midground feature. The Marimo spheres can be removed from the tree and placed freely in the tank if preferred, then reattached to the structure whenever desired.

    Common Questions

Are Marimo moss balls actually alive?

Yes — Marimo are real living algae (Aegagropila linnaei), not plants or moss despite the name. The spherical form is a natural growth habit unique to this species.

How do I care for them?

Very easily. They need low light, clean water, and a gentle squeeze and reshape once a month during water changes to maintain their round form.

Can I remove the Marimo from the tree?

Yes — the spheres can be removed and placed freely in the tank, then reattached to the tree structure whenever desired.

What size tank does the small tree suit?

It suits aquariums of 30 litres and above and works as an effective midground feature in smaller tanks.

What water temperature do Marimo prefer?

They prefer cooler water ideally between 15–22°C. They tolerate tropical temperatures up to around 25°C but do not thrive in very warm tanks.
