Chladoflora (marimo moss ball) is one of the most effortless aquarium plants you can keep. Scatter a cluster across your substrate and watch your aquascape come to life with these velvety, deep-green spheres — each approximately 1cm in diameter.

Virtually maintenance-free, they thrive in tropical environments and are a firm favourite with shrimp keepers. Your shrimp will spend hours grazing and rolling across them — endlessly entertaining to watch.

    • Pack of 5 mini moss balls (~15mmm each)
    • Ideal for tropical and shrimp tanks
    • No CO2 or specialist lighting required
    • Works beautifully in clusters or scattered arrangements

Care tip: If your moss balls are floating, give them a gentle squeeze underwater to release any trapped air. Roll them between your palms before placing in the tank to keep their shape perfectly round.

    Information about growing mosses:

    1. Slow growing

Mosses are well known for being relaltively easy to grow. Due to the fact they are slow growing, it means demands are low. This means less light, less fertilisers and less care.

    2. Not too much light please

Because all mosses are slow growing, you can't force them to grow quicker. So brighter light and loads of CO2 won't turbo charge them - actually you'll just end up stressing them out. Whilst some will always grow faster than others, mosses take time to get to the stage you want them to be. Patience.

    3. Trimming is beneficial

Like all plants, mosses need trimming with a shaprt pair of scissors so don't hold back. Avoid them getting leggy, trim them to keep their shape and they will reward you with better growth which is a deeper green and dense.

    FAQs

How big are the moss balls?

Each mini Chladoflora moss ball is approximately 1cm in diameter — perfectly sized for nano tanks, shrimp setups, and foreground aquascaping.

How many come in a pack?

Each pack contains 5 mini moss balls.

Do they need CO2 or special lighting?

No — Chladoflora is one of the few aquarium plants that requires neither CO2 injection nor specialist lighting. They're genuinely low-maintenance.

Why are my moss balls floating?

This is common after transit. Simply give them a gentle squeeze underwater to release any trapped air, then roll them between your palms to restore their round shape before placing them in your tank.

    Are they safe for shrimp?

Absolutely — shrimp love them. They'll graze on the surface for hours, making them both a food source and enrichment for your shrimp.

    What temperature do they prefer?

They thrive in tropical aquariums between 18–28°C, making them compatible with most community and shrimp tank setups.

How do I keep them round?

Give them a gentle roll between your palms every water change. This helps maintain their shape and ensures even light exposure on all sides.
