Vallisneria nana is a compact, fine-leaved Vallisneria variety producing very narrow, grass-like leaves that stay shorter and more restrained than the larger Vallisneria species. Its slender leaves and more modest height make it practical for a much wider range of aquarium sizes, including medium and smaller planted aquariums where standard Vallisneria would grow too large.
Like all Vallisneria, it is an easy plant tolerating low light without CO2 injection and adapting well to a range of water conditions including hard and alkaline water. It spreads via runners to form a gradually expanding fine-leaved grass stand in the background. Runner-produced daughter plants can be thinned or repositioned to manage the spread.
Supplied as a bunch ready to plant, Vallisneria nana suits aquariums from 30 litres upward. Its fine texture, compact form, and easy care make it one of the most versatile Vallisneria varieties for planted aquariums where a naturalistic grass background effect is wanted without the size of the larger forms.
