    Description

Anubias barteri var. nana Pinto is one of the most visually striking of all Anubias cultivars, producing dark green leaves with irregular patches of white, cream, or pale yellow variegation that forms a unique and unrepeatable pattern on each individual leaf. The variegation is genetic and appears spontaneously — no two leaves and no two plants look alike. It is a rare cultivar that commands significant attention in the planted tank hobby.

Despite its unusual appearance, the Pinto requires no more care than standard Anubias nana. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. Growth is slow as with all Anubias and the plant is very long-lived. The variegation is stable and does not revert to solid green over time.

Supplied as a plug specimen — a small rooted plant ready to be attached to wood or rock. Fix the rhizome to a piece of driftwood or rock using thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Never bury the rhizome in substrate. This is a rare and premium item and availability cannot always be guaranteed.

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

What causes the white variegation on Anubias Pinto?

The patterning is a genetic mutation — cells in variegated areas lack chlorophyll, producing white or cream patches. Each leaf is unique and no two plants look alike.

    Will the variegation remain stable?

Yes — the Pinto variegation is stable and does not revert to solid green. New leaves will continue to show the patterning.

Does it need special care because of the variegation?

No — care is exactly the same as standard Anubias nana. Low light, no CO2, tolerant water conditions. The variegation does not make it more demanding.

    How do I attach it?

Fix the rhizome to wood or rock using thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Never bury the rhizome in substrate — this causes rot.

Why is it supplied as a plug?

A plug is a small rooted plant grown in a rockwool cube for easy transport. Remove the rockwool and attach the rhizome to your chosen wood or rock on arrival.
