Description
Bucephalandra 'Green Velvet' is one of the most popular and widely kept Bucephalandra varieties, with rich, velvety-textured deep green leaves that have an almost plush appearance under good lighting. It's one of the more reliable and forgiving Buce varieties — a good starting point for anyone exploring the genus — while still offering the characteristic iridescent quality the genus is known for.
Care is straightforward: low light, attach to hardscape, no CO2 required (though it benefits growth and colour). Slow growing and very low maintenance once established. Shrimp are drawn to the leaf surface and coexist well with all Bucephalandra.
Attach the rhizome to wood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.

Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
Is Green Velvet a good Buce to start with?
Yes — it is one of the more reliable and forgiving varieties. A good introduction to Bucephalandra for anyone new to the genus.
Does it need CO2?
No — it grows without CO2. Supplementation improves growth rate and can enhance the leaf colour.
How do I plant it?
Attach the rhizome to wood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome — this causes rot.
Is it shrimp-safe?
Yes — all Bucephalandra are excellent with shrimp. The leaf surface develops a biofilm that shrimp actively graze on.
Does it have an iridescent sheen?
Yes — under good lighting Green Velvet displays the characteristic Buce iridescence across the leaf surface.
