Description
Echinodorus ducumbens is an unusual low-growing sword plant that creeps along the substrate rather than growing upright — producing leaves on long horizontal stolons that spread across the bottom of the aquarium rather than shooting toward the surface. The growth habit creates a sprawling, carpeting effect that's unique among the Echinodorus genus.
Medium light, no CO2 required, planted in substrate with root tabs. The horizontal growth means it can cover significant ground over time — plan for this when deciding where to position it. Growth rate is moderate.
Plant in the foreground to midground. Allow space for the plant to spread laterally. Propagation via the runners and daughter plants it produces naturally.
