Description
Limnophila sessiliflora is one of the most adaptable stem plants in the aquarium hobby, producing fine, feathery whorls of divided leaves along tall, branching stems. Unlike the more demanding Limnophila species, it grows vigorously without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of light levels, making it one of the most practical background plants available for low-tech aquariums.
Its fast growth and nutrient uptake make it a valuable plant in new aquariums, where it helps stabilise water quality during the cycling phase. Regular trimming encourages bushy, dense regrowth, and cuttings root readily in the substrate to extend a background planting group. It adapts well to both tropical and slightly cooler water temperatures.
Supplied as an established potted plant, Limnophila sessiliflora suits aquariums from 60 litres upward. Used as a background plant, it produces the soft, feathery visual texture characteristic of Limnophila at a fraction of the care difficulty of related species, making it an excellent choice for beginners and low-tech hobbyists alike.

Nice plants for my 25 litre tank, have bought these a few times, always grow fast & nice & a lovely colour.
It's look very good in the fish tank need to get some more
All plants healthy, already grown an inch or so.
Plant received was absolutely tiny and sadly didn't grow at all. I wasn't expecting a huge plant but it was really small for the price paid.
Arrived in absolute perfect condition and is already growing well a few days after putting it in my tank!
These plants arrived in Excellent condition , Growing well in my tank
Perfect condition beautiful plant growing fast
Looks lovely
Excellent healthy plant
Beautiful plant, arrived in perfect condition, growing in a low tech aquarium without co2, i am very pleased with it.
Brilliant very pleased with the product
This plant grows fast, looks like an organic lace umbrella, good for back or mid aquarium and is easily trimmed to a decent height.
I noted this plant likes light, and bought it in hope, as the bottom aquarium is not in full sunlight. In three weeks it has grown fuller, taller, and looks lovely. I do use a daily CO2 feed, and maybe this has helped. I can't believe how happy it is. Will definitely have this again.
Very good quality plant, After only two weeks it has established well and is a very welcome addition to the aquarium decor.
Always a great plant that takes hold quickly
All plants I ordered came really well packaged, this one looks amazing in my tank and adds a lot of colour
I have had no problem with this plant. It arrived alive and it's currently thriving in my fish tank. It is a very pretty plant. I'd highly recommend it
First Class Plant delivered in perfect condition
This plant arrived in great condition. Initially, I had some doubts about using it as a background plant because it was quite small, however after three weeks of growth it has nearly reached the top of the tank! It looks incredibly healthy and is a great background plant in my 40 litre. I’d definitely buy another one to create a bushier look.
Ideal plants for my set up
Cannot praise this company enough. 100% satisfaction with every order I have made. Love these plants, the condition they arrive is exceptional and I am really happy with them in my aquarium. Look amazing. Thanks guys!!
Great plant, really vigorous growth. Arrived in good condition
Growing very fast and strong, having to trim weekly, trimmed plants just pushed into substrate and immediately starts to grow. Would recommend this plant.
Within 5 days almost at the surface. Clear pearling within an hour of planting.
very good looking for-wood to buying moor plants cant buy better locally very pleased
great plant I love the look it gives and the fact that its a great alternative to cabomba. it's growing really quickly and probably in need of a trim already
As always excellent product great packaging & delivery
Would recommend buying any plant from Aqua essentials
First class & completely satisfied with every product i have purchased
Nice little plant. Not taking as well as the others. Doing ok in the betta tank but might not like the conditions in the goldfish tank so much. Probably me rather than the plant but arrived not looking quite as healthy as the others. Very little root system.
Started growing as soon as I put it in, and I've got a fairly deep tank. Angelfish don't peck at the leaves, which makes a change!!!
Plant looks better than photo more like a fern and growing happily. Interestingly it shuts it's leaves at night!
Great plant, arrived in perfect condition, separated it into 6 pieces when I planted it up, it's been in the tank just over 2 weeks and it's really filled out and already reached the top of water, it's the fastest growing plant in my tank growing about 15cm a week, quite delicate looking and the leafs close up when it's dark, would fully recommend.
Wow, This plant has flourished in my aquarium Vivid green colour very delicate leaves looks amazing thanks
A wonderful plant. It is a great shape, feathery and has romped up to the water surface. I am now going to prune and replant the cuttings. It makes a lovely contrast to red -leaved plants
Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
Is Limnophila sessiliflora easy to keep?
Yes. It is one of the easiest Limnophila species and grows vigorously without CO2 under low to medium light, making it ideal for beginners.
Does it need CO2?
No. Unlike most Limnophila species, sessiliflora grows well without CO2 injection and is a practical low-tech background plant.
How fast does it grow?
Fast. Under good light it grows several centimetres per week. Regular trimming is needed once the plant is established.
How does it compare to Limnophila aquatica?
Sessiliflora is much easier to keep than aquatica and grows without CO2. Aquatica produces larger, more impressive whorls but requires bright light and CO2 for good results.
What aquarium size suits it?
It works well in aquariums from 60 litres upward as a background plant. Its vigorous growth means it fills in quickly in any set-up.
