    Description

Lindernia rotundifolia is a compact stem plant from Asia and Africa producing small, rounded, bright-green leaves along upright stems, giving it a distinctive, almost bubble-like appearance quite different from most aquarium stem plants. Its neat round-leaved form is popular in structured planted layouts where a small-leaved, compact stem plant provides a useful contrast to larger or more feathery neighbours.

It grows best with medium light and CO2 supplementation, which encourage compact growth and vibrant leaf colour. Without CO2 it can still be maintained in a well-lit aquarium but tends to grow more loosely. A nutritious substrate or regular liquid fertilisation supports steady, healthy growth over the long term.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Lindernia rotundifolia suits aquariums from 50 litres upward in the midground. Its compact, round-leaved stems add an unusual and appealing textural element to planted layouts, working particularly well in Dutch aquarium style compositions where diverse stem plant groups are arranged in defined zones.

    Very melted 😔

The plant arrived with a lot of damaged and melted leaves/stems and some were already turning brown. I have pruned back heavily and hope it does ok. A real shame as all my other plants where in great condition.

    Review

Healthy and very attractive plant - lots of stems with good length and seems to have established well. The leaf shape, size, and pattern are very different to most plants making it a really striking addition.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

    What makes Lindernia rotundifolia distinctive?

Its leaves are unusually small and round, giving the plant a bubble-like, compact appearance quite unlike most stem plants. The neat, densely-packed leaf form is particularly sought after in structured planted layouts.

    Does it need CO2?

CO2 is recommended for compact, well-structured growth. Without it the plant grows more loosely and slower in a well-lit aquarium.

Is it easy to care for?

It is manageable for hobbyists with medium light and ideally CO2. It is not the most demanding plant but benefits from more stable conditions than the easiest stem plants.

Where does it work best in the aquarium?

The midground is most appropriate, where its small leaf size and compact habit can be appreciated without being overshadowed by larger plants.

    How do I propagate it?

Trim stems and replant the cuttings in the substrate. They root readily and continue growing, making it easy to build out a planting group over time.
