Description

Ludwigia peruviana is a large, vigorous Ludwigia species from South America producing pairs of broadly oval to elliptical leaves in bright green, often developing attractive warm yellow-green tones in good light. Its naturally tall, robust growth makes it well suited to the background of planted aquariums where it fills space quickly and creates a lush backdrop.

It is one of the more tolerant and easy-care Ludwigia species, growing well under medium light without CO2 injection. Regular trimming keeps it in check and encourages bushier, more structured growth. Cuttings root readily in the substrate, making it simple to propagate and fill in a background planting group.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Ludwigia peruviana suits aquariums from 80 litres upward. Its fast growth, easy care, and attractive oval leaf form make it a practical and visually substantial background plant for community and planted aquariums that need a reliable, low-maintenance species to fill the upper reaches of the layout.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is Ludwigia peruviana easy to care for?

Yes. It is one of the more tolerant Ludwigia species, growing well under medium light without CO2 and tolerating a range of water conditions.

Does it develop any red colouration?

In good light the leaves can develop warm yellow-green to golden tones, but it remains predominantly green. It does not become intensely red like palustris or glandulosa.

How large does it grow?

It is a tall-growing species reaching 40 cm or more, making it best suited to the background of larger aquariums from 80 litres upward.

Does it need CO2?

No. It is adaptable and grows well without CO2 injection, making it a practical low-tech background plant.

How do I propagate it?

Trim stem cuttings and replant them in the substrate. They root readily and continue growing, allowing you to build a dense background planting quickly.
