Description

Rotala Orange Juice is a distinctive and unusual stem plant selected for its warm orange to amber colouration rather than the more typical red of most high-colour Rotala varieties. Under bright light and CO2 the leaves develop vivid orange to tangerine tones that are genuinely uncommon in aquarium plants and create a striking and unusual colour accent in the background of planted layouts.

It requires bright light and CO2 injection for the most vivid orange colouration and compact, structured growth. Under lower light or without CO2 the warm orange shifts toward green and the plant becomes more elongated. Iron-rich fertilisation supports pigmentation, and regular trimming keeps the stems compact and promotes fresh orange growth on new leaves.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Rotala Orange Juice suits aquariums from 50 litres upward with bright lighting and CO2. Its uncommon warm orange colouration makes it a popular choice for hobbyists wanting to add a genuinely different colour note to their planted aquarium beyond the more standard red and green palette.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Does Rotala Orange Juice need CO2?

Yes. CO2 injection is needed for the vivid orange colouration and compact growth. Without CO2 the orange tones fade to green and the plant grows more loosely.

How orange does it actually get?

Under bright light and CO2 it develops vivid warm orange to tangerine tones across the leaves — a genuinely unusual colour for an aquarium plant.

What light level does it need?

Bright light is required for the most vivid colouration. The intensity of the orange correlates directly with light levels and CO2 availability.

How is it different from red Rotala varieties?

Instead of the typical pink-red of rotundifolia or blood-red of Blood Red varieties, Orange Juice produces warm orange-amber tones that are distinctly different and less common in the hobby.

How do I propagate it?

Trim stems and replant the cuttings. Regular trimming keeps internodes short and the growth compact, with the freshest orange colour appearing on active new growth.
