Description

Echinodorus sunset is a warmly coloured sword plant cultivar producing leaves in rich shades of orange, amber, and burnt red — tones that evoke the warm palette of a late evening sky. New growth displays the most vivid orange-red, giving the rosette an attractive layered appearance as the colours gradually shift and deepen on mature leaves.

It is easy to keep, growing under medium light without CO2 injection. The warm orange and amber tones are best maintained with adequate light and a substrate or fertiliser containing iron and micronutrients. As a root feeder, it benefits from planting in a nutritious substrate or the regular addition of root tabs.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Echinodorus sunset typically reaches 30–45 cm and is best used as a background or centrepiece plant in aquariums of 150 litres or more. Its unusual warm orange tones set it apart from the more common red and green sword plants and make it a striking addition to a planted layout.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What colour are the leaves on Echinodorus sunset?

New growth emerges in vivid orange-red and amber tones, gradually deepening to a richer burnt orange-brown on mature leaves. The effect is a warm, sunset-like palette across the rosette.

Does it need CO2?

No. It grows reliably under medium light without CO2. Iron-rich fertiliser and a nutritious substrate enhance the warm orange tones.

How large does it grow?

It typically reaches 30–45 cm in height, making it suitable for the background of aquariums from 150 litres upward.

How do I maintain the orange colour?

Consistent medium light and regular root fertilisation are key. Iron-containing root tabs or liquid fertiliser help sustain the warm pigmentation on new growth.

What plants pair well with Echinodorus sunset?

Cool green plants such as Vallisneria, Sagittaria, or green Cryptocoryne provide a strong colour contrast that highlights the warm amber and orange tones of this plant.
