Description

Hygrophila guanensis is an easy-to-keep stem plant with oval to lance-shaped mid-green leaves, similar in habit to Hygrophila corymbosa but with slightly different leaf proportions and a moderately compact growth pattern. It is a reliable background plant for hobbyists looking for Hygrophila variety beyond the most commonly available forms.

Like most Hygrophila, it grows under medium light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. Regular trimming keeps it bushy and prevents it from reaching the surface too quickly. Cuttings root readily in the substrate and continue growing, making it easy to fill out and maintain a planting group over time.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Hygrophila guanensis suits aquariums from 60 litres upward. It is a practical background plant for community aquariums, providing good visual structure while remaining easy to maintain through trimming and replanting.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is Hygrophila guanensis easy to care for?

Yes. Like most Hygrophila stem plants it is very forgiving and tolerant, growing well under medium light without CO2 in a wide range of water conditions.

Does it need CO2?

No. It grows reliably without CO2 supplementation, making it a practical low-tech background plant.

How does it compare to Hygrophila corymbosa?

It is similar in overall habit and care to corymbosa but with slightly different leaf proportions. Both are easy background stem plants well suited to beginners.

How do I maintain it?

Trim regularly and replant cuttings at the base. The plant branches from the trim point, becoming progressively bushier and fuller over time.

What size aquarium suits it?

It works well in aquariums from 60 litres upward as a background or taller midground plant.
