Description

Lysimachia nummularia, commonly known as creeping Jenny, is a low-growing stem plant with rounded, coin-shaped leaves in fresh mid-green. In the aquarium it produces a trailing and creeping growth habit that makes it well suited to the midground of planted layouts, spreading gently across the substrate and filling gaps between upright stems and rosette plants.

It is an undemanding species that grows well under medium light without CO2 injection, making it a practical choice for low-tech planted aquariums. Growth is moderate and easy to manage. Regular trimming of any upward-growing stems keeps it in a tidy horizontal form. Cuttings root readily and can be replanted to fill in gaps.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Lysimachia nummularia suits aquariums from 40 litres upward. Its easy care, attractive rounded leaf form, and creeping habit make it a versatile and distinctive midground plant that provides a different texture to the more common upright stem plant species.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Does Lysimachia nummularia need CO2?

No. It is an adaptable, easy-care plant that grows well without CO2 injection under medium light, making it suitable for low-tech planted aquariums.

How does it grow in the aquarium?

It has a creeping and trailing habit, spreading horizontally and filling gaps between other plants in the midground. Some stems may grow more upright and can be trimmed back.

Is it easy to care for?

Yes. It is one of the more straightforward stem plants, tolerating a range of water conditions and growing well in low-tech set-ups.

How do I propagate it?

Trim stems and replant cuttings. They root readily in the substrate and continue the creeping growth pattern.

What aquarium size suits it?

It works well in aquariums from 40 litres upward, either as a midground filler plant or used in combination with upright stem species.
