Anubias aquarium plant (Anubias nana) is a compact, slow-growing plant native to tropical West Africa. It is popular for its attractive dark green leaves (up to 6cm long and 3cm wide) and easy care, making it ideal for beginners.
This anubias aquarium plant thrives in low to moderate light, does not require CO₂, and can be grown when attached to rocks or driftwood. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral water and temperatures between 22–28°C. Though slow to establish, it is hardy and highly adaptable.
Propagation is simple—divide the rhizome into sections, each with leaves and roots, then reattach in the aquarium.

This is one of my favourite plants for the aquarium keeping hobby.
I've bought this plant from Aqua Essentials (AE) on 2 occasions. On both occasions I've received an exceptionally healthy plant. The roots have been thick, healthy and bound throughout the container pot they grew up in.
This plant is great because at the age you purchase it and as it gets older, it casts some great shadows into your tank. It adds loads of layers and texture.
My red crystal shrimp love the nana and use it as a breeding ground. The bottom of the plant, by the roots, is very bushy. I can't quite see into it but I can tell it goes deep with leaves overlapping one another. This is a safe place for shrimp and I've had multiple adults at this point give birth within the plants dense leaf structure.
The top of the plant casts some greater shadows. As the leaves grow up, the stalk that holds them grows tall until it overlooks the rest of your tank. These broad leaves are a nice bed for shrimp or other fish that may lay on their belly to rest.
If you purchase one, please keep in mind you must glue this plant to an object such as a rock, wood or tank furniture. The roots of this plant collect nutrients from the water column instead of the substrate which is why it must be glued down. You must glue it to an object by its rhizome, if you don't glue it and decide to bury the plant, ensure you do not bury the rhizome or the plant will begin to rot and die. Bring scissors to your attempt at removing this plant from its pot, it may come a little entangled, but its so extremely worth any effort!

I have this plant for 1 week now and I have already lost the flower and few leaves. Also the stem have started to rotten. I had before anubias bartering var nana and the plant died. I don't want to blame you maybe it's something wrong with the conditions I offer to the plant but I would like to know. The description of this plant says it's easy to care but it looks not for me. Anubias aquarium plants should not be buried in substrate. Instead, attach them to rocks, driftwood, or decorations using thread or glue, keeping the rhizome exposed to prevent rotting.
To plant Anubias nana, attach it to hard surfaces like rocks or driftwood. Ensure the rhizome stays above the substrate, as burying it can damage the plant.
Anubias barteri is planted the same way as other Anubias species—by attaching it to rocks or driftwood. It should not be fully buried in substrate, as the rhizome needs water flow around it.
Anubias plants are propagated by dividing the rhizome. Cut the rhizome into sections, ensuring each piece has leaves and roots, then reattach them to surfaces in the aquarium.
Anubias should be placed in low to moderate light areas and attached to decorations rather than planted in substrate. This helps prevent rot and promotes healthy growth.
