Alternanthera reineckii is a classic South American stem plant that delivers strong colour contrast in planted aquascapes. The leaves have a distinctive two-tone appearance — green on the upper surface and deep red-to-purple on the underside — creating a striking visual impact when planted in groups.
It performs best under medium to bright lighting, and CO2 supplementation is recommended to bring out the full colour intensity and encourage vigorous growth. Without CO2 it will survive but the red tones tend to fade. Propagation is easy: trim the tops and replant as cuttings, and the original stems will branch and become bushier.
Plant in groups of three or more stems for maximum effect in the midground or background.

I bought this Alternanthera Reineckii along with the mini or dwarf Reineckii .be warned this is a TALL plant I don't have a photo I'm afraid I gave it to a friend who has a deeper tank. It's a shame its a beautiful plant just like the mini reineckki. It was my fault tho I was guilty of not reading the extensive information aqua essentials provide with every plant! If you have a standard hight tank buy the mini Reineckii. If you have a tall tank buy a couple of pots you won't be disappointed!. As usual the delivery was fast the way the plants are packaged is brilliant I'm not seeing ANY other business package their plants in such a way they are totally safe and protected. The quality is exceptional it really is. If its aquatic plants you want only shop with aqua essentials you would be daft going elsewhere.

Since putting these plants in my tank the colour if the red one has faded and the green ine remains green is it a light heat ir iron issue?
Tyically for red plants they need either brighter light OR light with a pink colour rendition (I'd choose the latter)

This plant didn't last too well this time. I had to throw it away today, as all its leaves had gone. It was a pity, as both I and the fishes love it. I think it suffered, despite the brilliant care and packaging, from an unforseen delay in delivery of several days during a severe snowy period. I think I probably should have given it time to rest before putting it in a tank at about 20 degrees, to minimise the shock. Thanks to Richard for this advice anyway. I will remember, if it ever happens again. I have just ordered some more, as the weather is now less disruptive. Fingers crossed!

It is easy to intermediate. It will survive in most tanks but develops its best colour under medium to bright lighting. CO2 is recommended for the strongest red tones.
