Description

Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica' is a broad-leaved cultivar of the popular wendtii Cryptocoryne, selected and named by Tropica Aquarium Plants. It produces wider, more substantial leaves in a warm bronze-green tone with attractive surface texture, giving it more visual presence than the slender-leaved wendtii forms. It typically reaches 15–25cm in height.

Care is the same as all wendtii: low light, no CO2, planted in substrate. Root tabs support good establishment. Like all Crypts, temporary leaf melt can follow being moved — leave the rhizome in place and it will regrow. Once established it is very reliable and spreads via runners.

Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. Foreground to midground positioning in most aquariums.

Customers praised this aquatic plant for its rapid growth and robust health, with one noting it "doubled in size in just two weeks." The bronze-colored, sword-shaped leaves create attractive mid-height interest. Shoppers appreciated the generous quantity (10 plants per pot) and minimal transplant shock. Some noted fish may disturb plants if not properly anchored.

I'm astonished how much this has grown in just two weeks. It recovered fast from the transit, and is now looking almost twice as big as I remember it when it arrived.

This is the second batch I have tried, and they are doing well. I like the arrow-shaped bronze-coloured leaves which create a lovely mid-height interest. However, my boisterous fishes tended to keep knocking them over, despite my efforts at anchoring the pots, and some of the leaves have yellowed. I have moved them to the 'plant aquarium'., and they seem happier.
