Java moss pre-grown on a 9 x 4.5 cm mesh scapers pad — a compact, neatly sized moss pad designed for targeted placement in aquascapes. The medium size is ideal for filling gaps between rocks and wood, creating small pockets of moss coverage, or adding moss accents alongside hardscape without the full coverage of the larger 15 x 10 cm pad. Its narrow form makes it easy to slot into tight spaces.

Java moss is one of the easiest and most adaptable plants in the hobby. It grows in low light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. The moss can be trimmed with scissors to any shape. Multiple pads can be positioned together for more coverage or used singly as targeted accents.

Simply rinse and place the pad in the aquarium — no attachment, planting, or preparation needed. It can be positioned flat, propped against hardscape, or used to fill gaps between rocks. Effective in aquariums of 20 litres and above wherever targeted moss coverage is wanted.

Information about growing mosses:

1. Slow growing

Mosses are well known for being relaltively easy to grow. Due to the fact they are slow growing, it means demands are low. This means less light, less fertilisers and less care.

2. Not too much light please

Because all mosses are slow growing, you can't force them to grow quicker. So brighter light and loads of CO2 won't turbo charge them - actually you'll just end up stressing them out. Whilst some will always grow faster than others, mosses take time to get to the stage you want them to be. Patience.

3. Trimming is beneficial

Like all plants, mosses need trimming with a shaprt pair of scissors so don't hold back. Avoid them getting leggy, trim them to keep their shape and they will reward you with better growth which is a deeper green and dense.

Customers said this Java moss pad "does the job brilliantly" for creating moss carpets in aquariums. The moss arrives healthy and in perfect condition, with customers noting it grows well after a few weeks. Shoppers appreciate the quality, prompt delivery, and good price. One noted it "looked a little sparse" initially but grew upwards within 10 days. Works well on driftwood, rocks, and mesh.

Great plant

Used this to develop a moss carpet in my small tank. It’s does the job brilliantly and compliments the other plants in the tank. Quality great and price is good too. As with all my Aqua Essentials deliveries, it was very prompt.

Arrived promptly and the moss although short and looked a little sparse, was clearly healthy. I only bought one, to see how it grows in my sand.
It's now after about 10 days and it's not sparse, and it's really grown upwards! Love it and this company. I will purchase more. Lx

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What is the difference between this and the large Java Moss on Pad?

The scapers pad is narrower (9 x 4.5 cm vs 15 x 10 cm), making it better suited for targeted placement in gaps between hardscape rather than broad foreground coverage.

Does it need CO2 or special lighting?

No — Java moss grows under standard aquarium lighting without CO2 injection.

Can I cut it to fit a specific spot?

Yes — the mesh pad can be cut to any shape with scissors for precise placement in tight spaces.

Is it suitable for shrimp tanks?

Yes, fully. Java moss is one of the most shrimp-friendly plants available — it provides grazing surface and shelter.

Can I use multiple pads together?

Yes — combine them in any configuration for the coverage you need.
