The Mini Anubias Bonsai is a small piece of driftwood or root shaped to resemble a miniature bonsai tree, with Anubias nana growing from the rhizome to form the canopy. The compact leaves of Anubias nana suit this style particularly well, giving a convincing arboreal appearance at a scale appropriate for nano aquariums and shrimp tanks. It makes an effective focal point without overwhelming smaller set-ups.
Anubias nana is one of the most low-maintenance aquarium plants available. It grows in low light without CO2 injection and is tolerant of a wide range of water conditions. The plant is slow-growing, which is actually an advantage here — the bonsai form is largely self-maintaining and requires very little trimming to keep its shape.
The plant is pre-established on the driftwood so no further planting or attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. Sized for aquariums of 20 litres and upward, it is particularly effective in shrimp tanks and nano aquascapes where the small scale works with the inhabitants rather than against them. Shrimp love grazing the Anubias leaves and sheltering around the base.
