    Description

Cryptocoryne flamingo is a striking pink-flushed Cryptocoryne cultivar producing leaves with an unusual salmon-pink to rose tint that provides a colour accent genuinely unlike any other foreground plant. The degree of pink colouration can vary with conditions — it's typically more vivid under better lighting — but it consistently adds warmth and colour contrast to layouts that otherwise rely entirely on green tones.

Care is the same as most Crypts: planted in substrate, low light, no CO2 required. It can experience temporary leaf melt when first introduced — leave the rhizome in place and new growth will appear. Root tabs support faster establishment.

Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. Works best as a foreground to midground accent plant where the pink colour can be appreciated close up.

Lovely plant, a surprising size quite a bit larger than I was expecting. Really healthy and in great condition, can't wait for it to convert and start showing those pink leaves.

All leaves had melted on arrival, unusable, had to throw away.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

    What is 'crypt melt'?

When moved to a new environment, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is normal — leave the rhizome in the substrate and new leaves will regrow.

How pink does the flamingo actually get?

Under good lighting it can be a vivid salmon-pink to rose. In lower light the colour is more muted. The degree of pinkness varies between individual plants and with conditions.

    Does it need CO2?

No — grows without CO2. Better lighting makes more difference to the pink colouration than CO2.

    Where should I position it?

Foreground to midground — where the pink colour can be seen at close range and really appreciated.

    How do I plant it?

Plant the roots in the substrate without burying the crown. It will propagate via runners over time.
