Cryptocoryne spiralis is a tall, elegant South Indian Cryptocoryne producing long, narrow, spirally twisted leaves that can reach 30–60cm in height. The spiralling leaf form is the defining characteristic — more pronounced than the gentle waviness of most Crypt species — and creates an unusually architectural quality as a background plant.
Low light, no CO2, planted in substrate. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate support good growth given the tall stature. Like all Crypts, it can experience temporary leaf melt when first moved — leave the rhizome in the substrate and it will regrow. Once established it grows steadily and can become a very dramatic background specimen.
Plant roots deeply enough in the background to support the tall leaves. It propagates via runners and will gradually form a stand over time.
