Microsorum pteropus Narrow is the slender-leaved form of Java fern, producing long, tapering dark green leaves with a more delicate and elegant appearance than the standard broad variety. This version comes pre-established on a decorative base designed to float at the water surface, positioning the plant where it accesses light naturally while its roots trail freely into the water column below.
Care is identical to all Java fern varieties — low to medium light, no CO2 required, and tolerance of a wide range of water conditions. Growth is slow to moderate but the plant is long-lived and low-maintenance. The narrow leaf form creates a lighter, more graceful appearance than standard Java fern and integrates particularly well with fine-leaved plants.
The floating base means no anchoring or substrate planting is needed — simply drop it into the tank. It can float freely or be positioned under a piece of decor to hold it in place. An unusual and attractive surface feature for aquariums of 30 litres and above.
