Microsorum pteropus Windelov, often called Lace Java fern, is a refined variety of Java fern with finely divided, ruffled leaf tips that give each frond a delicate, lace-like texture quite unlike the standard broad form. This version comes pre-established on a decorative floating base, positioning the plant at the water surface where its distinctive leaf tips are visible from above as well as from the front of the aquarium.
Care is identical to all Java fern varieties — low to medium light, no CO2, highly tolerant of a wide range of water conditions and tank inhabitants. Growth is slow to moderate and the plant is long-lived. The Windelov form adds textural interest and elegance that standard Java fern lacks.
The floating base means no anchoring or substrate planting is needed — simply drop it into the tank and position as desired. It can float freely or be held in place under a piece of hardscape. Shrimp enjoy grazing on the leaf surfaces and trailing roots. Suited to aquariums of 30 litres and above.
