Monosolenium tenerum is a delicate and interesting liverwort from Asia producing flat, ribbon-like thalli in deep green rather than conventional leaves — a botanically unusual plant that differs in fundamental structure from most aquarium plants. Soft in texture and naturally bright green, it creates a distinctive, low-growing mat that looks particularly effective in natural and biotope-style aquascapes with open substrate areas or hardscape arrangements.
It is an easy and tolerant plant growing without CO2 in low to medium light and adapting to a broad range of water conditions. It can be placed on the substrate, anchored to wood or rock, or used as a floating mat. It is notably brittle when handled — the thalli break easily — but this also makes it very simple to propagate by division. Once established it spreads gradually into a dense, appealing mass.
Supplied as a Tropica 1-2-GROW! tissue culture cup, this plant arrives completely free from snails, pest algae, and pesticide residue. Rinse the gel gently and portion onto substrate or hardscape as desired. Suits aquariums from 15 litres upward — a botanically unusual and visually appealing low-tech plant that is fully shrimp safe and excellent for shrimp tanks.
