Phyllanthus fluitans, the Red Root Floater, is one of the most visually striking floating aquarium plants available, producing small, rounded leaves in bright green above and vivid reddish-pink on the undersides and stems. The red colouration on the undersides and trailing root system creates a bold and beautiful visual effect on the water surface, particularly striking when light reflects off the water and illuminates the reddish roots hanging below.
It is an easy and undemanding floating plant growing without CO2 under low to medium light and adapting well to a range of water conditions. Under high light the red colouration intensifies considerably. Fast-growing under good conditions, it needs periodic thinning to prevent it from covering the entire water surface. Shrimp and small fish take shelter among its trailing roots and the plant absorbs excess nutrients directly from the water column.
Supplied as a Tropica 1-2-GROW! tissue culture cup, this plant arrives completely free from snails, pest algae, and pesticide residue. Remove from the cup, rinse the gel and float on the water surface. Suits aquariums from 20 litres upward — a visually striking and easy floating plant that is fully shrimp safe and highly decorative.
