Description
Microsorum pteropus Trident is a distinctive variety of Java fern with deeply forked, three-pronged leaf tips that give each frond an architectural character not found in the standard form. Pre-attached to natural wood, it creates an unusual and eye-catching planted feature for aquariums of all styles. The forked tips are particularly visible and attractive in open-plan layouts where individual leaves can be seen clearly.
Care is identical to all Java fern varieties — low to medium light, no CO2 injection required, and tolerance of a wide range of water conditions and tank inhabitants. Growth is slow to moderate but the plant is long-lived and low-maintenance. It is generally left alone by most fish including many cichlids.
The rhizome is pre-attached to the wood so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. Never bury the rhizome. Adventitious plantlets develop on the leaf surfaces and can be removed once rooted and attached to new wood. Suited to aquariums of 30 litres and above.

Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
What makes the Trident variety special?
The Trident form has deeply forked, three-pronged leaf tips that give each frond a distinctive, sculptural quality unlike standard or Narrow Java fern.
Does it need CO2?
No — like all Java fern it grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection.
Do I need to attach it when it arrives?
No — the rhizome is pre-attached to the wood. Just rinse and place.
How does it propagate?
Adventitious plantlets grow on the leaf surfaces naturally. Once rooted they can be removed and attached to new wood or rock.
Is it safe for shrimp and community fish?
Yes, fully shrimp-safe. Most fish also leave Java fern alone, making it practical for a wide range of tank set-ups.
