Description

Moss on Driftwood is a piece of natural driftwood pre-grown with live aquarium moss, creating one of the most versatile and widely loved planted features in the hobby. The soft, dense coverage of moss on natural wood produces an immediately naturalistic appearance that works in virtually any aquarium style — from detailed Nature Aquarium aquascapes to simple community tanks and dedicated shrimp set-ups.

Aquarium moss is one of the easiest plants to maintain. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. The moss will slowly spread and increase its coverage over the driftwood surface over time, growing denser and filling in naturally with no intervention needed. It is a favourite of shrimp that graze on it constantly and use it for shelter.

The moss is pre-established on the driftwood so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. The driftwood will anchor itself on the bottom of the tank. It may release some natural tannins initially, which is harmless and settles over time. Suited to aquariums of all sizes from 20 litres upward.

Plant Sizes

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What type of moss is it?

The exact species of moss varies with seasonal stock but is always a live aquarium variety suited to submerged conditions. Contact us if a specific moss species is important to you.

Does it need CO2 or special lighting?

No — aquarium moss is one of the most low-tech plants available and grows under standard aquarium lighting without CO2.

Will the moss spread over the wood?

Yes — the moss will slowly increase its coverage over the driftwood surface over time, growing denser and more established as it settles.

Is it good for shrimp?

Yes — one of the best choices for shrimp tanks. Shrimp graze on moss constantly, use it for shelter, and breeding shrimp particularly favour heavily mossed wood.

Will the driftwood discolour the water?

Natural driftwood may release some tannins initially, giving the water a light amber tint. This is harmless and settles with regular water changes.
