Description

Anubias barteri var. glabra — also sold as Anubias barteri var. angustifolia — is a slender-leaved Anubias from West Africa with long, narrow leaves that give it a more graceful and elegant appearance compared to the broader-leaved barteri varieties. It typically reaches 10–20cm in height with the rhizome extending 10–15cm or more over time.

Like all Anubias, it's very easy to keep: tolerant of low light, no CO2 required, and attached to hardscape rather than planted in substrate. It prefers a slightly shaded position — avoid placing it under direct intense light. Fish, even herbivorous species, leave the tough leaves alone entirely.

Remove from the pot and attach the rhizome to wood or rock. Do not bury the rhizome.

Great condition crypt

The plant arrived in perfect condition. I quickly removed the pot and rockwool from the roots and have attached it to a coconut shell. That was 5 days ago and there's been no melting or any other signs it won't be happy. Very pleased with the purchase!

This was my first order from aquaessentials. I was not disappointed.
My plant came well packed and a very fast delivery. It had very healthy roots and leaves, I was able to get two plants from it easily. Plants look great in my tank, and are growing well.
Thanks aquaessentials, I will definitely buy from you again.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is Anubias barteri var. glabra the same as angustifolia?

They are closely related and often used interchangeably in the hobby. Both refer to the narrow-leaved slender form of Anubias barteri from West Africa.

How do I plant Anubias glabra?

Attach the rhizome to wood or rock using thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome — this causes rot.

Does it need CO2 or bright light?

Neither. It prefers a shady position and does perfectly well without CO2 in a low-tech tank.

How tall does it grow?

Typically 10–20cm in height, with the rhizome extending 10–15cm or more over time.

Is it safe for fish and shrimp?

Yes — even herbivorous fish leave the tough leaves alone, and shrimp coexist perfectly with it.
