Description

Anubias barteri var. Coffeifolia is one of the most visually distinctive Anubias varieties available. The broad leaves are strongly corrugated with deep ridges running between the ribs, giving them an unusual textured appearance that stands out against smoother-leaved plants. New growth emerges with a bronze-red tint before settling into a rich, dark green.

It's as undemanding as all Anubias: no CO2 required, tolerant of low light, and fixed to wood or rock rather than planted into substrate. Growth is slow but the dense layered foliage builds up into a substantial midground feature over time. It flowers readily and is left entirely alone by fish.

Remove from the pot and attach the rhizome to hardscape with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.

As always, excellent specimens with good growth. These are a lovely addition to the anubias varieties, giving different colour and texture to the more common leaf shapes among the anubias spp. Instant jungle with interest. Thanks AE. still love what you do!

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What makes Coffeifolia different from standard Anubias barteri?

The strongly corrugated leaf surface is the defining feature — leaves arch deeply between the ribs, creating a textured, rippled look. New leaves also emerge with a bronze-red tint before settling to dark green.

How do I plant Anubias Coffeifolia?

Attach the rhizome to wood or rock using thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome as this will cause rot. Roots will fix the plant to the surface naturally.

Does Anubias Coffeifolia need CO2?

No — like all Anubias it grows well without CO2 supplementation and suits low-tech aquariums.

How large does Anubias Coffeifolia grow?

Typically 15–25cm in height with the rhizome extending 10–15cm or more. Suitable for midground to background placement depending on tank size.

Does Coffeifolia flower?

Yes — Anubias flower readily in aquariums, producing small white spathes. A sign of a healthy, established plant.
