Origin: Africa
Position in Aquarium: Attach to wood/rock
Grows up to (cm): 20 cm
Pot Size: 5 cm
Growth rate: Slow
Description
Anubias gracilis is one of the less commonly seen Anubias species, producing slender arrow-shaped leaves on a more open, taller rhizome than the compact barteri varieties. That distinctive silhouette gives it an elegant appearance that contrasts well with the broader-leaved Anubias more commonly found in the hobby.
It's equally undemanding: no CO2 required, tolerant of low light, and attached to wood or rock rather than planted into substrate. Growth is slow, as expected for an Anubias, but the plant is long-lived and becomes an increasingly impressive structural feature over time.
Remove from the pot and attach the rhizome to hardscape using thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.

Customers praised this aquatic plant's "beautiful, healthy" appearance with "nicely shaped triangular dark green leaves." The plant arrives in excellent condition with secure packaging and quick delivery. However, some noted it grows slowly and cannot be planted in substrate. One customer found it smaller than expected for the price.

Beautiful plants very pleased, delivered quickly, packaged really well.
Another lovely plant from aqua essentials
This plant arrived in perfect condition and is a great addition to my aquarium
Arrived in excellent condition and growing nicely
Excellent Quality product and great service
Look amazing!
A very unique plant because of its leaf shape. This is by far one of the best Anubias plants, only downside is that they grow quite slowly and cant be placed into the substrate in which it would look far neater
Aqua Essentials is the best place to get your plants online, the plants sent were always great quality. This plant suffered during shipping (all the other shipments I have received have been great), but Aqua Essentials customer support team was great and quick to help me get it sorted.
Great plant, well established and packaged securely, will definitely be using AE more often.
Beautiful, healthy plant. Very well packed and protected. Definitely recommend.
Nice plant, but somewhat smaller than what the picture and the price might have you expect.
Beautiful plant with nicely shaped triangular dark green leaves!
Quality value as always from AE. I struggled to find someone selling this particular variant of Anubias and once purchased and received, was really glad I chose to buy from here. Got a plant identical in age/height to the one pictured.
As always, excellent specimens with good growth, adding instant jungle and interest with this lovely anubias variety. Thanks, AE: still love what you do!
Superb variation of the Anubis found in most aquariums, looks great attached to bog wood.
Very nice plant, very robust which it needs to be as my plecos seem to like it, leave have a nice shape compared to other Anubias.
Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
What makes Anubias gracilis different from other Anubias?
The slender arrow-shaped leaves and more open, taller rhizome give it a distinctive elegant look compared to the compact round-leaved barteri varieties. It is less commonly seen in the hobby.
Does Anubias gracilis need CO2?
No — it grows well in low-tech setups without CO2, just like all Anubias varieties.
How do I attach Anubias gracilis?
Tie or glue the rhizome to wood or rock. Do not bury the rhizome in substrate as this causes rot. Roots will fix the plant to the surface naturally over time.
Is Anubias gracilis suitable for beginners?
Yes — it is undemanding and tolerant of a wide range of conditions. The unusual leaf shape makes it a good choice if you want something different from the standard Anubias varieties.
How tall does Anubias gracilis grow?
It can reach 15–25cm in height, with the arrow-shaped leaves giving it a more vertical, open appearance than the compact nana varieties.
