    Description

Anubias hastifolia is the tallest Anubias species available, producing long lance-shaped leaves that can reach 40–50cm in a mature plant. That height makes it one of the few Anubias suitable for background placement in larger aquariums, where its impressive stature creates a dramatic vertical element unlike most other Anubias varieties.

It's as undemanding as any Anubias: no CO2 required, tolerant of low light, and attached to hardscape rather than planted into substrate. The broad dark leaves are tough and provide excellent cover for fish that appreciate shelter. Growth is slow but the plant becomes increasingly striking the longer it is left undisturbed.

Remove from the pot and fix the rhizome to a substantial piece of wood or rock. Do not bury the rhizome. Approx 20–35cm in height on arrival.

Healthy aquatic plant with broad leaves praised for excellent quality and condition. Customers said it arrived "very well packaged" with "stunning" appearance. Easy to care for and grows well in tanks. Some noted size inconsistency, with plants occasionally smaller than expected. Good value overall.

Slightly disapointed with the size of these plants this time as they were about half the size that I got last time. Plant's came in very good condition though.

A good, solid, robust plant with broadleaves, and helping to fill out at the back of the tank. Look good with several planted fairly close together.

I ordered and received three Anubias hastifolia plants within three days. The plants were of exceptional quality and of a good size, about 25cm. The only criticism I have is: Several of the top leaves were folded over to make it possible to fit the plastic bags they came in. perhaps a little more care next time?
as the leaves have now split and look unsightly.
Aquaessentials is a reliable and professional company to do business with I have used them in the past and will continue to do so.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

How tall does Anubias hastifolia grow?

Up to 40–50cm in maturity — the tallest Anubias available. One of the few Anubias suited for background placement in larger aquariums.

    Does Anubias hastifolia need CO2?

No — like all Anubias it grows without CO2 and tolerates a wide range of water conditions and light levels.

How do I plant Anubias hastifolia?

Attach the rhizome to a substantial piece of wood or rock using thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome — this will cause it to rot.

Is Anubias hastifolia suitable for community tanks?

Yes — even fish that normally destroy plants leave Anubias completely alone. The tough waxy leaves are extremely resistant to fish and invertebrate damage.

How is Anubias hastifolia different from other Anubias?

Size is the key difference. Hastifolia is significantly taller than barteri, nana, or coffeifolia, with large lance-shaped leaves that give it a commanding presence in larger setups.
