Description

Anubias nana 'Coin' is a relatively new cultivar distinguished by round, coin-like leaves that are more circular than the oval leaves of standard Anubias nana. It's a subtle but distinctive variation that adds a different leaf texture and shape to a planted layout where standard Anubias are already present.

Like all Anubias, it is slow growing, undemanding, and tolerant of a wide range of conditions: no CO2, happy in low light, and attached to wood or rock rather than planted into substrate. Shrimp and fish leave it alone, and the tough leaves are highly resistant once the plant has settled.

Remove from the pot, rinse, and attach the rhizome to hardscape. Letting it float for a few days before attaching can help reduce the chance of leaf melt. Do not bury the rhizome.

Customers praised this aquarium plant for its "lush green leaves" and healthy condition upon arrival. Most reported quick growth with new leaves appearing within weeks. The plant establishes easily and can be attached to wood or stone. One customer experienced leaf deterioration possibly due to shipping, though they remained hopeful for recovery.

Disappointed

I was happy with all the other plants I ordered but a bit disappointed with the Anubias Nana Coin as all the leaves started to shrivel up the next day. Unfortunately, I think the time in transit must have affected it because the stems of the leaves became mushy and the more I looked the more came away in my hand. I’ve ordered this plant before & it’s travelled ok so not sure why this has happened needless to say there wasn’t much left of the plant. Just the stem & roots. I’m hoping it’ll recover in time.

Lovely healthy little plant and even has a bud on it too! Love the deep colour, shape of leaves and that it's a slow grower as my tank is small. Looks great!

I adore this plant. Established very easy and quickly. I used a cable tie to attach it to my wood. It's growing already within a few weeks, so I'm hopeful of a flower!

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What makes Anubias nana Coin different?

The leaves are distinctively round and coin-like — more circular than the oval leaves of standard Anubias nana. A newer cultivar with a subtle but noticeable difference.

Does it need CO2?

No — like all Anubias it grows happily in low-tech setups without CO2 supplementation.

How do I plant it?

Attach the rhizome to wood or rock. Do not bury the rhizome — this will cause rot.

How do I prevent leaf melt when I first add it?

Remove from the pot, rinse, and let it float for a few days before attaching. This acclimatisation period helps reduce leaf melt during the transition.

Is it safe for shrimp?

Yes — Anubias is one of the most shrimp-friendly plants available. Shrimp graze on the biofilm that develops across the broad leaves.
