Description
Bucephalandra caterina is one of the smallest Bucephalandra varieties available, producing tiny rounded leaves on a miniature rhizome that grows exceptionally slowly. Its compact scale makes it ideal for nano aquariums where a full-sized Buce would be out of proportion, and for fine detail work on small pieces of wood or rock in any aquascape.
Care requirements are the same as all Bucephalandra: low light, attach to hardscape, no CO2 essential. The small leaf surface still develops the characteristic Buce iridescence and remains attractive to shrimp. Patience is required — growth is even slower than typical Buce — but the result is a very controlled, detail-oriented plant.
Attach the rhizome to hardscape with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.

It is one of the smallest Buce varieties — both the leaves and the overall plant size are miniature. In a nano aquarium it is in proportion in a way that larger Buces aren't.
Does it need CO2?
No — it grows without CO2, though supplementation improves the growth rate of what is already a slow grower.
How do I attach it?
Tie the rhizome to wood or rock with thread, or use aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.
Is it shrimp-safe?
Yes — Bucephalandra is excellent with shrimp. They graze on the biofilm that develops across the leaves.
How slow does it grow?
Very slowly — even by Buce standards. Plan for this and choose hardscape placement that suits a long-term, low-maintenance plant.
