Description

Bucephalandra kedagang is the classic, most widely kept Bucephalandra variety — smooth, oval leaves in a deep olive-green with a pronounced iridescent sheen that shifts between green, blue, and silver depending on the angle of light. If you're new to Bucephalandra, this is the natural starting point: it is reliable, attractive, and forgiving across a range of conditions.

Like all Buce: attach to hardscape, low light, no CO2 required. Growth is slow and steady. Shrimp are active on the leaf surface, which develops a healthy biofilm. The classic oval leaf shape works well on both smooth and textured hardscape.

Attach the rhizome to wood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.

Beautiful as always

No surprises here. As aways with aqua essentials the plant arrived in lovely condition and is doing well in my tank. I come to really like the various forms of Buce because it's one of the few things my mbunas won't eat.

Nice Plant

Plant arrived in excellent condition and as it was of a good size I decided to divide it into two which have been superglued to some lava rock. It is early days but both pieces seem to be doing well.

Was quite disappointed when I opened the package as some of the leaves were off and more came off but have put in the plant in the fish tank so hopefully it will recover.

My first bucephalandra, but it's highly unlikely to be my last. It adds a nice variation in both colour and texture that looks great alongside my other epiphytes

I’m obsessed with Bucephalandra. I brought 8 unit to make a bonsai tree and was worried they would go far enough, but that that’s all I could afford because the price has jumped up in recent months. However the plants were of a good size and I had plenty. The are stunning and look the part in my set up. As always great service from Aquaessentials.

Only 50% of my Buce survived melt. Beautiful but fragile. Jury's out on whether I would return for these.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is kedagang a good Bucephalandra to start with?

Yes — it is the most widely kept and reliable variety. A natural choice for anyone new to the genus.

Does it have a sheen on the leaves?

Yes — kedagang has a pronounced iridescent sheen that shifts between green, blue, and silver depending on the angle of light. Very distinctive under good lighting.

Does it need CO2?

No — it grows without CO2. Supplementation improves growth rate and can enhance the iridescent sheen.

How do I plant it?

Attach the rhizome to wood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.

Is it safe with shrimp?

Yes — one of the best Bucephalandra for shrimp tanks. The leaf surface develops biofilm that shrimp actively graze on.
