Description
Bucephalandra theia is a popular and widely appreciated variety with slightly wavy, dark green leaves that add more textural interest than the smooth-leaved kedagang. The waviness creates a more organic, irregular outline on each leaf, and the characteristic Buce iridescence is present across the surface — making it highly visible from multiple angles in good lighting.
Care is the same as all Buce: low light, attach to hardscape, no CO2 essential. Slow growing and very low maintenance once established. Shrimp graze actively on the biofilm that builds up across the leaf surface.
Attach the rhizome to wood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.

Experienced Buce melt on 50% of those I bought. They are beautiful plants if fragile. Jury's out on whether I would invest heavily in these again.

How does theia differ from kedagang?
Theia has slightly wavy leaf margins, giving a more textured and organic appearance compared to the smooth, oval leaves of kedagang. Both are similarly easy to keep.
Does it need CO2?
No — grows without CO2, though supplementation improves growth rate and may enhance the iridescent leaf sheen.
How do I plant it?
Attach the rhizome to wood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe superglue. Do not bury the rhizome.
Is it shrimp-safe?
Yes — all Bucephalandra are excellent with shrimp. The leaf surface develops biofilm that shrimp actively graze on.
How fast does it grow?
Slowly — typical of all Buce. Very low maintenance once established on hardscape.
