Description
Cryptocoryne albida 'Brown' is a slender-leaved Sri Lankan Cryptocoryne with narrow, strap-like leaves in warm brown to olive-brown tones. It's a relatively compact species reaching 10–15cm, making it useful for foreground to midground positions in mid-size aquariums. The narrow brown leaves provide a colour contrast that works well alongside green-leaved plants.
Care is straightforward: plant in the substrate, low light, no CO2 required. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate support good establishment. Like all Crypts, it may experience temporary leaf melt after being moved — leave the rhizome in place and it will regrow. Once settled it becomes increasingly reliable.
Plant the roots into the substrate without burying the crown. It spreads slowly via runners over time.

Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
What is 'crypt melt'?
When moved to a new environment, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is a normal stress response. Leave the rhizome in the substrate and new leaves will grow within a few weeks.
Does it need CO2?
No — it grows well without CO2. A nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs are more important.
How do I plant it?
Plant the roots in the substrate without burying the crown. Crypts should be rooted in substrate.
How fast does it grow?
Slowly at first while establishing, then speeds up over the following months.
How does albida Brown differ from green Crypt species?
The narrow brown leaves provide a warm earthy contrast against greener plants — useful for colour variation within a planted layout.
