Description

Echinodorus 'Fancy Twist' is a cultivar with uniquely twisted and spiralling leaves — the leaf blades curl and wind along their length rather than lying flat, creating an architectural, almost sculptural effect on each individual leaf. As a midground specimen the twisted leaves catch the light differently depending on the angle, adding constant visual interest.

Medium light, no CO2 required, planted in substrate with root tabs. Care requirements are the same as any Echinodorus — the twisted leaf form is what makes it stand out rather than any particular cultivation demands.

Plant in the midground. Propagation via daughter plants on flower stems once established.

Customers praised this aquarium sword plant as "beautiful" and "stunning" with vibrant red colors and healthy growth. Most noted excellent packaging and quick delivery. The plant thrives in low-tech conditions and spreads outwards rather than upwards. Some concerns: difficult to remove root fiber, may be eaten by large cichlids, and one arrived larger than expected for foreground use.

  • Wonderful large waxy-looking leaves, each unique in colour & shape. Highly recommended!
  • Stunning colours, looks great next to some wood or rocks.
  • Nice plant, delivered quickly in top condition. Growing well in low tech conditions.

lovely plant!

All arrived safe and well packaged as always. Plant is beautiful and healthy, love it. Only problem is, it is exceptionally difficult to remove all the fibre it grows in from around the roots.

Beautiful plant. Smaller than I thought it would be but it had a very healthy root system. Wasn't doing much under my very low lighting but as soon as I upgraded my lights a few weeks after purchasing the plants they started to grow nicely. Love the colours. Would recommend to anyone that wants a nice sword plant.

Plants were very healthy and sturdy when they arrived and are growing away well. I have previously bought one of the plants and it is the centre piece of my aquarium. Highly recommended.

This plant arrived in good condition and has established itself well. It is slow growing but is becoming a good specimen plane in the centre of my aquarium.

The plant arrived well packaged but had a few tears in the leaves. However, now it's in the tank it seems to be growing ok and looks very nice.

Stunning coloured plant that adds a lovely contrast to the planted aquarium - best suited to being planted amongst rock scape elements where the colour really stands out.

Firstly a great plant, extremely healthy and well-grown.

BUT it was bought for the foreground and the plant when delivered was already more than 30cm tall!

Mid ground plants that really stand out! They are long lasting: Mine are 2-3 months old and show no sign of waning! Wonderful large waxy-looking leaves sprouting from the base, each leaf unique in colour & shape. This plant grows outwards rather than upwards so make sure it has sufficient space all around to get the best results. Highly recommended!

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is the twisted leaf form stable?

Yes — the spiralling and twisting of the leaves is a stable cultivar characteristic, not a sign of nutrient deficiency or poor health.

Does it need CO2?

No — grows without CO2. Root tabs near the roots support the best growth.

How large does it get?

Moderate — 20–35cm in most conditions. Good for midground positioning.

How do I fertilise it?

Root tabs near the roots — Echinodorus are heavy root feeders.

How do I propagate it?

Daughter plants on flower stems — detach once they have 3–4 leaves and visible roots.
