Description
Echinodorus grisebachii 'Tropica' is a neat, compact Echinodorus cultivar developed by Tropica Aquarium Plants — one of the smaller and tidier sword plants available, producing well-proportioned, lance-shaped green leaves that stay compact and structured. It's particularly useful in aquariums where a full-sized sword would quickly dominate, and as a midground plant it provides sword character without overwhelming the layout.
Medium light, no CO2 required, planted in substrate with root tabs. The compact size means it's slightly less demanding on the substrate than the large-leaved species. Reliable and easy to keep.

Two potted plants were ordered, each were removed from the pots and divided carefully into three plants and then added to the aquaria in close groups - the result is stunning. A week or so on and they are growing well, establishing themselves nicely - new growth is really good.

Significantly more compact than full-sized swords — a true midground plant that stays in proportion in smaller aquariums.
Does it need CO2?
No — grows without CO2. Root tabs near the roots support the best growth.
Is it suitable for smaller tanks?
Yes — the compact form makes it well suited to smaller aquariums and planted tanks where larger swords would be out of scale.
How do I fertilise it?
Root tabs near the roots. Echinodorus are root feeders regardless of size.
How do I propagate it?
Daughter plants on flower stems — detach once they have 3–4 leaves and visible roots.
