Description
Limnophila hippuridoides is a bold stem plant from Southeast Asia with pronounced, multi-leaved whorls that create a full, brush-like appearance along each stem. Its strong structural form makes it an eye-catching addition to the background of well-maintained planted aquariums, particularly in large-scale nature aquarium and high-tech layouts.
It is a demanding species that requires bright light and CO2 injection for healthy, structured growth. Under insufficient light or without CO2 the plant becomes sparse and leggy, losing the dense whorled habit that defines its appeal. Regular liquid fertilisation and a nutritious substrate help sustain the vigorous growth needed for best results.
Supplied as an established potted plant, Limnophila hippuridoides suits aquariums from 80 litres upward equipped with bright lighting and CO2 injection. Used in the background, its full, bushy whorls create a distinctive structural element that contrasts well with finer-leafed and broader-leafed plants placed in front.

Very pretty plant. Arrived in great condition, with plenty of well developed shoots.
This one has grown well in the 2 weeks and needs a trim. I'm not seeing much red as yet but have just increased my lighting and added CO2 and I think it will do well. Lots of new shoots coming out of the base.
As always with aquaessentials: great communication, honest advice, superb prices, swift postage & exceptional quality-I've just planted a nano with 6 different species from Richard & his team, 1/52 in & they're all settling well-I completely recommend aquaessentials
plants were super healthy and full
very happy with my experience
Pretty plant, Seems ok hope will grow ok, sure it will as all plants bought from ae have been great.
Having never used Aquaessentials before I only ordered the one plant, however the plant arrived in perfect condition and is now starting to thrive in my tank, the plant was well packaged and would probably survive the worst of delivery methods known to man. I will definitely be using the company again for all my aquarium plant needs. keep up the good work aquaessential.
Beautiful plant! It arrived very quickly and was absolutely perfect

Nice looking plant, even nicer when it finally transforms into its submerged state good quality plant
Lovely plant, and a fast grower too.
Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
Does Limnophila hippuridoides need CO2?
Yes. CO2 injection is important for the dense, structured whorled growth this plant is known for. Without it, growth becomes sparse and leggy.
What light level does it need?
Bright light is recommended. Under medium or low light the plant deteriorates and loses the full, brush-like whorled appearance that makes it distinctive.
Is it easy to care for?
It is moderately demanding and best suited to hobbyists with experience in CO2-injected aquariums who can provide bright, stable lighting conditions.
How large does it grow?
Stems can reach 40 cm or more if left untrimmed. Regular trimming keeps the plant in bounds and promotes bushy side branching.
How do I propagate it?
Trim stems and replant the cuttings in the substrate. They root readily and continue growing, allowing you to build out a denser background planting.
