    Description

    Alternanthera reineckii 'Mini' is a compact, lower-growing form of the popular AR that stays more manageable in smaller planted tanks. The deep burgundy-red foliage creates strong visual contrast against surrounding green plants.

    It performs best under medium to bright lighting with CO2 supplementation, which intensifies the red tones and promotes bushy growth. Under lower conditions the colour fades and the stems become leggy, so it rewards a well-equipped setup. That said, it's more accessible than many demanding red plants, making it a good step up for aquascapers moving on from beginner species.

    Trim regularly to keep the growth compact and encourage branching. Plant in small groups in the foreground or midground.

    Cannot complain the plant arrived very healthy and well packed. I did notice that a few days after planting it in the tank the plant looked a bit distressed and leaves started melting but thankfully it has recovered and is growing well the leaves are a beautiful colour although a bit slow in growth it seems to have settled well in my aquarium. Happy with the purchase.

    Is Alternanthera reineckii Mini easy to grow?

    It is accessible for aquascapers stepping up from beginner plants. It needs medium lighting and ideally CO2, but is less demanding than many other red stem plants.

    Does it need CO2?

    CO2 is recommended for the strongest red colour and most compact growth. The plant survives without it but fades in both colour and vigour.

    How tall does Alternanthera reineckii Mini grow?

    It stays lower than the standard reineckii, reaching approximately 10–20cm depending on conditions. Regular trimming keeps it even more compact.

    Where should I plant it?

    Foreground to midground. The compact size and rich red colour make it ideal as a colour accent in the lower section of a planted layout.

    How do I propagate it?

    Trim the tops and replant as cuttings. The original stems will branch and build into a denser clump over time.
