Description

Lagenandra meeboldi Red is a richly coloured form of the Lagenandra meeboldi species from Sri Lanka, producing long, lance-shaped to oval leaves in warm shades of red to bronze-red. Its distinctive colouration and unusual leaf form set it apart from both Cryptocoryne and the green form of the same species, making it a sought-after plant for collectors of unusual rosette plants.

Care is uncomplicated. It tolerates low light and grows without CO2 injection. Like its green counterpart and Cryptocoryne relatives, it may undergo a temporary adjustment period when first introduced to a new aquarium, with older leaves melting back before healthy new growth emerges from the rhizome. A nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs support strong re-establishment.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Lagenandra meeboldi Red suits aquariums from 60 litres upward in the midground. Its warm red tones pair well with green Cryptocoryne and Anubias, providing a rich colour contrast in the planted midground without the demands of high-maintenance red plant species.

The red tinge of the leaves makes a very attractive contrast against the greens of my other plants. It arrived in good condition and is doing well. Very pleased.

Fast delivery and great condition on arrival. With a small tank I only ordered 1 pot but divided it into multipal plants. The leaves are large and a wonderful dark green with reddish undertones. Very stunning especially when planted with a bright green stemmed plant. My actual plant was taller than I expected but I am sure this will vary form plant to plant. Not a problem but did mean I had to adjust where I was intending to plant some of them and the over all look is a bit different. Still looks amazing and I am glad I ordered it.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is Lagenandra meeboldi Red easy to keep?

Yes. Despite its striking red colouration, care requirements are very similar to Cryptocoryne — low light, no CO2, and a nutrient-rich substrate.

Will it melt when first planted?

It can experience temporary leaf melt when adjusting to new water conditions, as can Cryptocoryne. New healthy leaves will regrow from the rhizome within a few weeks.

Does it need CO2?

No. It grows well under low light without CO2, making it suitable for low-tech planted aquariums.

How do I maintain the red colouration?

The red tones are natural to this variety and do not require special treatment. Standard planted aquarium care with adequate light and nutrients keeps the colour consistent.

How does it differ from green Lagenandra meeboldi?

The red form produces leaves in warm red to bronze-red tones rather than green, but the care requirements and growth habit are essentially the same.
