    Mixed Boxes are the best way to add lots of plants into your aquarium without the hassle of having to choose the plants - leave it up to the experts!

    Our plant manager will persoanlly pick your plants choosing a range of foreground, midground and background plants. All mixed boxes have a range of colours and sizes so when they arrive with you, it looks beautiful immediately.

    What size should I choose?

    Select the mixed box that is closest to your aquarium taking into consideration any wood or rocks you already have in there. If that's the case, try the next size down.

    Can I request specific plants in a Mixed Box?

    You can't request specific plants but if you'd like more foreground than background for eg, shoot us a message and we'll see what we can do for you.

    The Coldwater mixed box of plants is intended for cold water aquarium plants setups.

    Plants included in these boxes are best kept at 15°C – 18°C (room temperature). These mixed boxes may contain a mixture of bunched and potted plants due to the limited number of cold water aquarium plants available at this temperature (only 14 max).

    Mixed boxes are perfect for anyone who's considering setting up a planted aquarium but is looking for an economical start with the highest quality aquarium plants available in the UK. If you're choosing cold water aquarium plants, you may not be sure which plants to select, so leave it up to us and we will do the selecting for you. Our expert Plant Manager knows exactly what looks right with the correct colour combinations and sizes.

    I hadn't tried the coldwater box before, wondering if my tanks were too warm for them (22 deg C). However, they are all thriving. The box contained some of my favorite plants, and some I hadn't tried before - that's the real benefit of a box. I love them all. Even the altanethera is still doing well. Normally it doesn't last long. I will buy this box again, thanks!

    Having researched on-line and having sourced aquatic plants in the past, decided to use Aqua Essentials to set up a new aquarium. While maybe not the cheapest, in terms of value-for-money, they are definitely up there at the top of the league - you really get what you pay for! The plants arrived well packed and in excellent health, each with its own data label explaining what it was etc. Soaked for 24 hours in water to check for snails (none appeared!), then carefully separated the root system from the propagation "bedding" (well worth taking time doing this given how important roots are) and then "installed" in the tank and left for a week. Result? Six healthy plants starting to grow and I'm sure they will have been working overtime to establish a full root system too. I was after quite a low density display so, allowing for rocks etc, I've got a great display in a 60L tank (sorry Aqua Essentials)! Of course, if you want a fuller display - and this is entirely up to you - I'd go nearer the recommended box size but, for me, this was perfect for what I wanted.

    Received These Plants in perfect condition. All were good healthy plants and well potted. Have added these to my unheated tank and are doing well but too early to say if my tanks conditions are right for them to thrive. Received a Beautiful specimen of Hydrocotyle Tripartita with lovely delicate leaves which unfortunately my Odessa Barbs took a shine to and devoured it completely ! My only criticism was the fibrous potting medium used. The plants had rooted very well in it but it was terrible trying to remove it from the plants before planting in the tank. Maybe a wool or foam medium would be much better to remove. That said I would not hesitate to purchase from you again some of the best plants I have ever received in a very long time of fishkeeping

    can these be placed straight into sand ?

    Ideally we recommend a nutrient rich substrate however you can take them out of their pot and rock wool and plant them up in the sand.

    Hi, I would strongley suggest you remove all plants from their pots and plant them directly into the substrate/soil.
