    Description

Cryptocoryne spiralis 'Red' is the red-tinged form of Cryptocoryne spiralis, producing the same distinctive spirally twisted, narrow leaves in a warm red to bronze-red tone rather than the standard green. The leaf colour adds warmth and contrast to background planting while the spiralling form retains its architectural quality. It can reach 30–60cm in good conditions.

Low light, no CO2, planted in substrate. Root tabs support good growth. Like all Crypts, temporary leaf melt can follow being moved — leave the rhizome in place and it will regrow. A striking background specimen for larger aquariums.

Plant roots in the background substrate. It spreads via runners and will form a stand over time.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

    What is 'crypt melt'?

When moved, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is normal. Leave the rhizome in the substrate and new leaves will regrow.

How does spiralis Red differ from standard spiralis?

The leaves carry a warm red to bronze-red tone rather than the standard green. Same spiralling leaf form, different colour.

    Does the red colour stay?

Yes — the red tone is stable, though it can be more or less vivid depending on lighting conditions.

    Does it need CO2?

No — grows without CO2. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate are more helpful.

    How tall does it grow?

30–60cm in good conditions — background only in most aquariums.
