Description

Hygrophila odora Difformis is a fast-growing stem plant with finely divided, feathery leaves that give it a lighter, more intricate appearance than the standard broad-leaved Hygrophila. Its rapid growth and attractive leaf form make it particularly popular for new aquarium set-ups where establishing background coverage quickly is a priority.

It is easy to keep, growing under medium light without CO2 injection. Like all Hygrophila it is tolerant of a wide range of water conditions and responds well to regular trimming, which encourages dense, bushy regrowth. Cuttings replanted in the substrate root readily and continue growing without delay.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Hygrophila odora Difformis suits aquariums from 60 litres upward. Its fast growth rate, fine leaf texture, and easy care make it one of the most practical background stem plants available, and it is an excellent choice for hobbyists setting up a new planted tank who want quick, reliable results.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is Hygrophila odora Difformis easy to keep?

Yes. It is one of the easier stem plants to grow and is well suited to beginners and new aquariums.

Does it need CO2?

No. It grows vigorously under medium light without CO2, making it ideal for low-tech planted aquariums.

Why is it good for new aquariums?

Its rapid growth rate allows it to establish background coverage quickly and absorb excess nutrients during the cycling phase, helping to create stable conditions early on.

How do I propagate it?

Trim stems to the desired height and replant the cuttings. They root quickly in the substrate and continue growing, allowing you to fill out the background planting over time.

What size aquarium does it suit?

It works well in aquariums from 60 litres upward as a background plant. Regular trimming keeps it in check in smaller tanks.
