    Description

Anubias barteri var. nana is a popular aquatic plant in the aquarium hobby due to its hardiness and easy care. Native to West Africa, this small, slow-growing plant thrives in low to moderate light, making it ideal for beginners. It has dark green, leathery, oval-shaped leaves and typically grows to a size of 4-6 inches (10-15 cm). Anubias barteri var nana can be attached to rocks, driftwood, or aquarium decorations, as its rhizome should not be buried in the substrate to avoid rotting. It is well-suited for a variety of water conditions, including temperatures between (22–28°C) and a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5, and it doesn’t require CO2 supplementation to thrive, it will benefit from liquid carbon.

While Anubias barteri var nana is a low-maintenance plant, it does benefit from occasional fertilisation with root tabs or liquid fertilisers, especially in low-nutrient environments. This plant is compatible with a wide range of freshwater fish and invertebrates, making it a versatile choice for aquascaping. However, it can sometimes develop algae growth on its leaves in tanks with excess nutrients or high light. Propagation is simple and can be done by cutting the rhizome, ensuring each section has at least one leaf. Overall, Anubias barteri var. nana is an attractive and resilient plant that adds greenery and texture to aquariums without demanding a lot of attention.
