Aponogeton henkelianus is a striking background plant from Madagascar producing unusually long, slim, bright green leaves on a vigorous growing bulb. The narrow leaf shape distinguishes it clearly from other Aponogeton species, which tend to produce broader or more heavily textured foliage. These specimens are supplied with leaves already established, giving immediate visual presence when the plant goes into the aquarium.

Like other large Aponogeton, it grows quickly under basic conditions — tolerant of low light, no CO2 required — and anchors itself naturally by putting roots down from the bulb. The slender foliage sways in the current and creates a different aesthetic to the broader-leaved species in the genus. Background positioning is essential given the leaf length.

Drop the bulb into the background substrate and leave it to establish. Like all Aponogeton, it goes through periodic dormancy cycles when the leaves die back — leave the bulb in place and new growth will resume.
